Psychological factors, including stressors, have a significant impact on the manifestation of skin diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and acne. On the other hand, dermatological disorders can cause psychological and psychiatric problems. The aim of the study was to present the current state of knowledge, based on the available literature, on the impact of psychological factors on the formation and course of skin diseases and the determinants of quality of life and mental disorders resulting from the presence of dermatological diseases. The overwhelming majority of studies confirm the negative impact of stress on the appearance and exacerbation of skin lesions in the course of many dermatological diseases and, consequently, deterioration of the quality of life. These factors also disturb the proper emotional state. A correct and multifaceted approach to a dermatological patient based on cooperation between a doctor, cosmetologist and psychologist increases the effectiveness of the therapy.
