Melanoma is a malignant tumor of the skin and mucous membranes, that is formed from pigment cells. The main risk factors for its occurrence are: natural and artificial ultraviolet radiation, light skin phototype, genetic factors and occurrence in the family. The basic diagnostic method is dermatoscopy, and the diagnosis can be made based on histopathological examination of the lesion. The basic method of melanoma treatment is surgical excision of the primary tumor. The aim of the study was to assess the state of knowledge about melanoma and its prevention among students of non-medical universities in Krakow, aged 19 to 30, using an anonymous questionnaire. A small percentage of the respondents know the correct definition of melanoma, but majority correctly responds to the question about the location and risk factors of melanoma. Students are aware of the fact that sunscreen should be used while sunbathing and that the skin of children should be protected more intensively against sunburn. Early detection often allows for a complete cure, so it is important that the knowledge about the causes of this cancer and its prevention is constantly deepened.
Influence of psychological factors on the development and course of selected skin diseases of selected skin diseases and the importance of dermatological disorders in mental well-being
Psychological factors, including stressors, have a significant impact on the manifestation of skin diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and acne. On the other hand, dermatological disorders can cause psychological and psychiatric problems. The aim of the study was to present the current state of knowledge, based on the available literature, on the impact of psychological factors on the formation and course of skin diseases and the determinants of quality of life and mental disorders resulting from the presence of dermatological diseases. The overwhelming majority of studies confirm the negative impact of stress on the appearance and exacerbation of skin lesions in the course of many dermatological diseases and, consequently, deterioration of the quality of life. These factors also disturb the proper emotional state. A correct and multifaceted approach to a dermatological patient based on cooperation between a doctor, cosmetologist and psychologist increases the effectiveness of the therapy.
Nowadays, physical attractiveness often determines the achievement of social and professional success. Most women assume that the slimming measures introduced will bring the expected effect. They also have expectations regarding changes in their perception of themselves, getting rid of complexes and regaining confidence. The aim of the research was to examine the motivation of women on slimming diets and to find an answer to the question of whether the respondents had a change in their perception of themselves after the end of the slimming diet and whether these changes had an impact on their lives. Motivation and the ability to set goals can become a key element of the diet and the effectiveness of slimming therapy.
Lines as proteins with intermediate filaments are part of the inner nuclear membrane and the internal structures of the cell nucleus. Disorders of their functions due to mutations concentrated in different regions of the protein molecule have serious consequences for the body and lead to premature death. Among the laminopathies are diseases affecting the muscle tissue, adipose tissue, and appear signs of premature aging and various skin lesions. The same molecular mechanisms that are responsible for premature aging of cells in patients with Hutchinson-Gilford progeria also appear to contribute to chronological aging of cells. Aging is a complex process that affects the entire body, including the skin. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of progeria, broadly understood, may result in obtaining a peptide whose action will help reduce the causes of intrinsic skin aging. The main aim of the study was to discuss skin lesions in premature aging syndromes and to draw attention to the importance of progerin and ProgelineTM tripeptide in skin aging.
Malocclusions of varying severity affect approximately 60% of the world’s population and they include abnormalities in the position of the maxilla in relation to the mandible. If left untreated, they can have very serious consequences for the entire body. The only effective form of treatment turns out to be orthognathic surgery, which determines the correct crossbite anterior. In addition to improving the quality of chewing, breathing and swallowing, the patient also gains perfect face harmony as a result of changes in the soft tissues of the nose, lips, cheeks, chin and jawline. Unfortunately, in the first few days after surgery, symptoms such as swelling, bruising or sensory disturbances appear in the jaw area. This paper aims to present ways to reduce swelling after orthognathic surgery, and to use kinesiotaping as one of the main methods.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a new disease entity caused by SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. It was first diagnosed in Wuhan, China. Its high rate of infectivity, low virulence, and asymptomatic transmission have caused it to spread rapidly beyond geographic boundaries, leading to a pandemic. The COVID-19 outbreak was identified as a public health emergency of international concern following a declared global pandemic. SARS-CoV-2 is an enveloped virus composed of single-stranded RNA and belongs to the coronavirus family. The virus enters cells through the angiotensin-converting enzyme receptor 2 (ACE2) on the surface of the cells. The lungs are the main site of COVID-19 infection, with symptoms ranging from mild flu-like, to fulminant pneumonia in patients. Patients have also been diagnosed with multiple cutaneous manifestations during the course of COVID-19. The aim of the article was to present, based on the available literature, selected skin disorders in patients with COVID-19. The basis of these changes is not fully understood and requires further research.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common chronic median nerve mononeuropathy manifested by nocturnal paraesthesia, sensory disturbances, and weakness or atrophy of the hand muscles. The symptoms of this syndrome are the result of chronic ischemia of the median nerve caused by increased pressure inside the carpal tunnel. The increase in intracanal pressure may occur as a result of an injury, anomalies in the structure of anatomical structures, endocrine disorders, or in specific positions of the wrist maintained for a long time – maximum dorsal or palmar flexion of the hand. Such positions are very often taken by office workers, whose nature of work resembles that of a beautician. The main goal of this study was to collect and present up-to-date information on the characteristics, clinical picture, etiology and epidemiology of carpal tunnel syndrome (with particular emphasis on the beautician profession) as commonly considered a risk factor for carpal tunnel syndrome. The additional purpose was to present conservative and surgical treatment as the two main methods of improving the patient’s health. In the non-advanced forms of carpal tunnel syndrome conservative treatment is used. The most common method is to immobilize the wrist in an intermediate position in the orthosis. Pharmacotherapy is also effective. Physiotherapeutic activities are mainly aimed at improving the patient’s quality of life, especially in the area of pain relief. If there is no improvement in response to conservative treatment or worsening of the syndrome’s symptoms, surgical treatment should be considered.
