Moisturizing properties of cornflower (Centaurea cyanus L.) extract. Case report

ABSTRACT
The cornflower (Centaurea cyanus L.) is a global annual plant, witch primarily inhabits cultivated areas. Although commonly regarded as a weed, it possesses many phytotherapeutic and cosmetological properties. The article provides a method for producing cornflower extract and hydrolate. This study aimed to assess the hydrating properties of extracts derived from cornflower. Only a limited number of sources offer information regarding the moisturising features of this plant. Cornflower is another example of a plant frequently encountered in Poland, and due to its unique properties, it can be effectively utilised by the cosmetic sector. Preparations containing a botanical extract from this plant may benefit the skin’s condition and support the treatment of multiple skin diseases.

STRESZCZENIE
Chaber bławatek (Centaurea cyanus L.) to roślina jednoroczna, występująca na całym świecie. Zajmuje głównie tereny uprawne. Często uznawana jest za chwast, jednak ma szerokie właściwości fitoterapeutyczne, a także kosmetologiczne. W pracy przedstawiono procedurę wykonania ekstraktu i hydrolatu z chabra bławatka. Celem była ocena właściwości nawilżających ekstraktów pozyskanych z chabra bławatka. Niewiele spośród dostępnych źródeł zawiera informacje na temat potencjału nawilżającego tej rośliny. Chaber bławatek jest kolejnym przykładem rośliny powszechnie występującej w Polsce, której właściwości mogą być wykorzystane przez przemysł kosmetyczny. Preparaty zawierające wyciąg z tej rośliny mogą korzystnie wpływać na kondycję skóry, a także wspomóc terapię chorób skórnych.
