ABSTRACT
Working with patients requires an understanding of the risks related to complications from diabetes. Individuals with diabetes are susceptible to certain problems related to their condition. This article presents the results of a research study that aimed to analyse the frequency of changes in the nails and skin of patients with diabetes and to assess their awareness of the disease, its complications, and preventive behaviours. A survey was conducted among 100 adult patients with diabetes. The main conclusion drawn from the study was that diabetes has a significant impact on the condition of the nails and skin on the feet, resulting in noticeable changes in their appearance. A great need for further education on the prevention and treatment of diabetes was identified, as the frequency of complications, including those resulting in amputations, remains high.

STRESZCZENIE
Znajomość zagrożeń wynikających z powikłań cukrzycy jest kluczowa w kontekście współpracy z chorym. Pacjenci, u których występuje cukrzyca są narażeni na szereg powikłań towarzyszących chorobie. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań własnych, których celem była analiza częstotliwości występowania zmian na paznokciach i skórze stóp pacjentów chorych na cukrzycę oraz analiza świadomości na temat choroby, jej powikłań oraz zachowań profilaktycznych. Przeprowadzono badanie ankietowe wśród 100 pełnoletnich pacjentów chorych na cukrzycę. Głównym wnioskiem wyciągniętym z badań był fakt, że cukrzyca ma realny wpływ na stan oraz kondycję paznokci i skóry stóp, co przekłada się na występowanie zmian w ich obrębie. Stwierdzono duże zapotrzebowanie na dalszą edukację w zakresie profilaktyki i leczenia cukrzycy, gdyż częstość powikłań, również tych zakończonych amputacjami, jest wciąż wysoka.
