Excessive hair loss as a complication after infection with SARS-CoV-2 virus
COVID-19 disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus is mildly or asymptomatic in many people. It is characterized by a very diverse course. In addition to the most common symptoms such as fever, dry cough or fatigue, the problem of excessive hair loss is more and more often observed. It is visible both in patients who have been infected with asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 virus and full-blown COVID-19. Signalized hair loss is very large and is mostly telogen in nature. The aim of the study was to review reports on excessive hair loss as one of the symptoms of coronavirus infection. The authors’ own observations and the studies published so far show that the problem affects both women and men, regardless of age and coexisting diseases. Undiagnosed excessive hair loss can cause hair thinning and even baldness.
