The effects of UV radiation on the skin and selected photoprotective compounds used in cosmetic products

ABSTRACT
The skin, the human body’s largest organ, is constantly exposed to ultraviolet radiation. Moderate exposure to sunlight can have a beneficial effect on the body – it supports vitamin D3 synthesis, improves mood and can be helpful in treating certain skin diseases. Excessive exposure leads to photoaging, discoloration, and increases the risk of skin cancer. This study aimed to present both the positive and negative consequences of ultraviolet radiation and to evaluate the effectiveness of sunscreen substances. A review of the literature showed that effective sun protection, including the use of protective filters, avoiding the sun around midday, and regular skin examinations, is crucial in preventing the negative effects of radiation.

STRESZCZENIE
Skóra, największy organ ludzkiego ciała, jest nieustannie narażona na promieniowanie ultrafioletowe. Umiarkowana ekspozycja na słońce może korzystnie oddziaływać na organizm – wspiera syntezę witaminy D3, poprawia nastrój oraz bywa pomocna w leczeniu niektórych chorób skóry. Nadmierna prowadzi do fotostarzenia, przebarwień i zwiększa ryzyko raka skóry. Celem pracy było przedstawienie zarówno pozytywnych, jak i negatywnych konsekwencji promieniowania ultrafioletowego oraz ocena działania substancji promieniochronnych. Przegląd literatury pokazuje, że skuteczna ochrona przeciwsłoneczna, w tym stosowanie filtrów ochronnych, unikanie słońca w godzinach okołopołudniowych i regularne kontrolowanie skóry, jest kluczowe w zapobieganiu negatywnym skutkom promieniowania.
