Retinoids in the prevention of photoaging

ABSTRACT
Photoaging is a term used to describe clinical and dermatopathological changes in middle-aged and elderly people chronically exposed to ultraviolet radiation. So far, various natural and synthetic vitamin A derivatives have been studied in order to find a treatment for photoaging. The aim of this study is to discuss the use of retinoids in photoaging prophylaxis. Of all of the retinoids, tretinoin has been studied the most and has proven clinical effectiveness. Promising research results were obtained with the use of seletinoid G, adapalene and trifarotene. Topical retinoids seem to be an effective tool in the fight against the signs of sun aging and acnitic keratosis. However, more clinical studies are needed to confirm their effectiveness compared to other methods of preventing sun damage to the skin.

STRESZCZENIE
Fotostarzenie to termin opisujący zmiany kliniczne i dermatopatologiczne u osób w średnim i starszym wieku chronicznie narażonych na działanie promieni ultrafioletowych. Dotychczas przebadano wpływ wielu różnych naturalnych i syntetycznych pochodnych witaminy A w profilaktyce starzenia słonecznego skóry. Celem pracy było omówienie wykorzystania retinoidów w profilaktyce fotostarzenia skóry. Tretinoina jest najlepiej zbadanym retinoidem o udowodnionej skuteczności klinicznej. Obiecujące wyniki badań uzyskano stosując również seletinoid G, adapalen i trifaroten. Retinoidy stosowane miejscowo na skórę wydają się być skutecznym narzędziem w walce z oznakami fotostarzenia i rogowaceniem słonecznym. Potrzebne są jednak dalsze badania kliniczne, aby potwierdzić ich skuteczność w porównaniu z innymi metodami profilaktyki uszkodzeń słonecznych skóry.
