The use of tranexamic acid in mitigating melasma

ABSTRACT
Melasma (chloasma) is a chronic, acquired hypermelanosis of the skin that affects people of different ethnic backgrounds. Despite the various therapeutic options available, a ideal solution for melasma reduction has still not been found, which motivates scientists to continue research in this area. This article aimed to analyse the effect of tranexamic acid on melasma in the light of recent scientific research. The topical use of tranexamic acid may be less effective than its oral administration. Nonetheless, its elevated safety profile, accessibility, and potential for integration with other therapies render it a compelling therapeutic option.

STRESZCZENIE
Melasma (ostuda) to przewlekła, nabyta hipermelanoza skóry, która dotyka ludzi o różnym pochodzeniu etnicznym. Pomimo szerokiej gamy dostępnych terapii, wciąż nie znaleziono panaceum dla melasmy, co motywuje naukowców do kontynuacji badań w tym obszarze. Celem niniejszego artykułu była analiza wpływu kwasu traneksamowego na melasmę w świetle najnowszych badań naukowych. Miejscowe stosowanie kwasu traneksamowego na skórę może być mniej skuteczne niż jego przyjmowanie doustne. Jednak dzięki wysokiemu poziomowi bezpieczeństwa, łatwej dostępności oraz możliwości łączenia z innymi metodami leczenia, jest atrakcyjną alternatywą terapeutyczną.
